Kraze burger, Seoul South Korea

A few years ago had you told me “I know this great burger restaurant” I would of brushed off the statement with a look of “what can be so good about a burger place?”.   However over the past few years I have been a vocal supporter of “La Paryse” a hole in the wall diner in downtown Montreal which serves up one of the best burger and fries I have had the pleasure of eating.

Since then I’m a little bit more open minded about trying out burger restaurants. It was with this in mind that me and my great Korean friend stopped in to check “Kraze Burger”.  I had seen a few “burgers” in various street stalls around Seoul and the meat didn’t look like anything i recognized.  It usually had a glossy look to it, as if the grease had somehow transformed into a coating protecting the meat.  I have not yet had the courage to try them…so perhaps they are actually quite tasty and delicious but I fear that my western digestive system would revolt if I tried one.

Each Kraze burger location (they are a small but well known chain) has a different entrance.  Here is the one located in Itaweon.  For those of you who read the Pizzarium post this is the place I had eaten before finding it.

I had read about this place in a foreigner magazine called Ten Magazine in one of their advertisement.  The prices are a little on the high side for a burger and fry restaurant but the article which showcased the chain explained that they ground their own beef every morning.  Here’s a few pictures of the menu, the cover,  general meal options and a few specific burgers:

I ordered myself a curry burger, fries and a coca cola.  Below you can see the close up of the burger itself, which contained fresh lettuce, tomato, pickles, bacon, curried onions, cheese and a beef patty on a soft bread bun and a side of pickles:

Like any good burger should be (in my humble opinion) it was almost impossible to eat without getting messy.  The curried onions brought a nice sweet barbq taste to the whole burger and the vegetables were nice and fresh.  The burger itself was perfectly cooked and the whole thing was simply delicious.

The fries as you can tell are large cut with crinkles/krinkles and are usually well cooked.  A few on occasion they`ve been on the slightly undercooked side for my taste but I like my fries to be slightly overcooked.

The total for the burger, fries and a coca cola was approximately 16 000 won if I’m not mistaken:  approximately 8 or 9 dollars for the burger, 3 or 4 dollars for the fries and a few dollars for the drink.  We revisited another Kraze burger location where I snapped a picture of the “classic” Kraze burger:

As indicated above this is a little bit on the expensive side for those simply wanting a burger and fries but it’s definitely worth the price if you want a good burger and fries while in Seoul! I also discovered an article on Seoul burgers that rated Kraze burger at number ten on their top ten burgers in Seoul… Can’t wait to go in search of their number 1, 2 and 3!
