Here are three pieces taken from various parts of Montreal over the last few weeks. The first piece has most likely been up/around for a while. I snapped the picture because I liked the vibe it gave off. Now I regret not having taken the time to get it at a proper angle:
Second piece is one by Oser. I’ve see his name around town now and again. This was one of the nicest ones I’ve personally seen from him:
I had a discussion on the subject of whether or not these artist would want to have their work on the internet. Despite all the arguments at the end of it all these pieces will not last forever, if very long at all. At some point another other artist, punk or random citizen is going to write over his or her piece.
It never stops and that’s one of the things I really like about this medium. It’s alive. The next time I see Oser’s piece people will have written over it. Changing the piece. Sometimes the pieces morph and merge into these really creative & collective works. Other times it’s a simple “you suck” written across it.
That’s one of the reasons I take the time to snap pictures of them. I may not be able to revisit one particular neighborhood for months but when I do I get to compare the pieces.
Isn’t that what all pictures are in the end are trying to do? To capture a moment in time so that we somehow remember it as it was?
