Continuing my adventures in the culinary exploration of burgers I bring you: Farmer’s original hand made burgers in Busan, South Korea. I discovered this burger place while wandering the streets of Busan randomly. Anytime I stumble upon one of my ‘interest’ randomly I take it as an indication I should stop and have a look.
When I first walked pass this Farmer’s it was early in the afternoon and I told myself I would come back later at night with a larger appetite. Included above are a couple of shots from the outside of the restaurant taken on different days (one at night and the other taken in the afternoon the following day). You’ll can also notice one of Busan’s landmarks which appears to tower over the burger joint
The burgers were all named based on different states. I was lucky enough to chat with the owner and I explained to him that one of my hobbies (if we can call it that) is that I enjoyed reviewing burgers and that when I saw his place I just had to stop in and give them a try. You can see the main ordering window and once you had your order placed you could walk around the side of the building to reach the several of the small dining floors above the kitchen. These we’re nicely decorated with different themes based on which floor you happened to settle on.
The first burger I tried wasn’t an actual beef burger but a chicken burger: “Blasphesmy!” you may be saying and before you get too upset please know that my second burger there was a beef burger ;-)
First off the whole combo or “set” as they call in Korea cost me around 10 000 won (approximately 10$ Canadian) and it came in this nice little cardboard lunch box. The first thing that struck me where the fries. They reminded me of the same type of fries as the fast food chain Mcdonalds uses. They we’re nice, crispy and on the salty side, which is exactly how I like them. The chicken burger had a slightly spicy sauce and one thing I appreciated was that the chicken was really nice, light and moist. It wasn’t greasy at all. The fresh toppings included onions, lettuce, tomatoes and green peppers along with a slice of processed cheese and a little bit of mayonnaise.
You can view the “Cancun” burger for yourself here:
The bread for the bun was soft yet the outside was solid and held everything together very well. It was a really good choice on the bread in my opinion (even if I usually prefer a burger bun that has a little more texture than a light bread). My only complaint and it is a small one is that the cheese was processed cheese. This is by no means a big deal and it didn’t detract from the burger at all. One such a nice handmade burger I think I would of preferred some real cheddar cheese. That being said every once in a while some processed cheese on a burger ‘hits the stop’ as we like to say.
The next day I came in and tried the Texas burger (spelled Taxas on their cardboard lunch boxes. No doubt a typo that will be fixed when they order their next round of the boxes). Although tasty it wasn’t as satisfying as some of the other handmade burgers I’ve had in the past. Also disappointing was the fact that my combo looked as if someone had eaten half of my fries. I considered going down and asking them to fill it up properly but talked myself out of it. At the end of the day a few less fries aren’t necessarily a bad thing!
Here we have some shots of the texas burger:
My overall take on the place? I’d recommend it for the atmosphere and the food over your run of the mill fast food joint anytime. Honestly speaking I have to say that the chicken burger was much better than the Texas burger and I wish I would have had a chance to try a few more of their offerings. I’d put these burgers squarely in the middle of any of my ‘top burger places’ It’s not at the top but it’s certainly no where near a fast food burger either.
Finally I leave you with a few shots from the “side” of the building prior to going into the dining rooms and from the top floor of the restaurant.
I haven’t been able to find an address for this place using google in English. The best I could do is mark the spot on a satellite map using google maps if any of you are wondering how to find the place. You can see it here
